Message from the Vice President

Vice President Sang Kee Song

Dear Students,

If you are looking for an exciting adventure this winter, look no further, as the Korea University International Winter Campus program (KU IWC), is an excellent opportunity to fulfill your dreams this winter by attending quality classes, gaining transfer credits and experiencing Korean culture in Seoul.

KU IWC offers a large selection of academically engaging classes to choose from, all taught by world-renowned professors who are distinguished in their fields. In most cases, you can also receive transfer credit towards your home university degree.

The program is offered in two participation tracks, in-person and online and entirely online. If you decide to participate in-person, in Seoul, be prepared to immerse yourself in the snowy wonderland of one of the world's largest 24-hour cities. Known for trendy fashion, fabulous food and exceptional shopping experiences, the vibrant city of Seoul is also home to K-Drama and K-Pop.

If you decide to participate virtually, taking our world-class lectures from the comfort of your home, we will be providing special online experiences to not only welcome you to the program, but also for you to get a sense of Korea University and our local campus culture. Both participation tracks provide exceptional opportunities to participate in various cultural and extracurricular experiences delivered either in-person or through our online platform.

So, if you are looking for an intellectually stimulating, culturally fascinating and socially dynamic experience this winter, the KU IWC program is for you. We look forward to welcoming you either in-person, or virtually, to Korea University this winter!

Korea University: A World-Class Leader in Higher Education

QS World University Rankings (2026)

Since its establishment in 1905, Korea University has stood tall as the nation’s finest private university amidst the ordeals of modern and contemporary Korean history, and is now taking great strides toward becoming a world-class university. Numerous talents from Korea University took the lead in restoring national sovereignty during the Japanese colonial era and played a leading role in the industrialization, democratization, informatization, and globalization of Korea in the decades following liberation.

KU’s noble founding philosophy of “national salvation through education” has been firmly passed down through the history of the university as a precious inheritance. The lessons of “liberty, justice, and truth” and the altruistic spirit of “public affairs first and private affairs later” forever resonate in the hearts of the KU community. Korea University, the nation’s university nurtured by the sincerity and efforts of the people, is developing into a world-class university.

We are now immersed in the age of knowledge popularization represented by artificial intelligence and SNS. Edu‑Tech companies, equipped with innovative technologies, are emerging as new competitors of universities that traditionally created future discourse in their role as halls of knowledge but are now becoming less significant and accordingly losing ground. However, Korea University, which has grown by overcoming countless national and social crises, will inaugurate a new era of university revival by continuing to perform its original role and mission.

To this end, Korea University will unceasingly strive to fulfill its social responsibility through the vision of contributing to the future of the nation and mankind. We will create new knowledge through transparency and convergence, remove the major field‑ and department‑centered system, and create a curriculum centered on problem‑solving. We will establish a curriculum for each life cycle and build an educational platform using innovative technologies. By conducting research and advancing education that contributes to the resolution of national, regional and global problems that impede humanity, Korea University will become an institution that contributes to creating a better world.

The year 2025 marks the 120th anniversary of Korea University. Deeply reflecting on the history and tradition of Korea University over the past 120 years, we will take a new step toward a brighter and greater future for the next 120 years. The 120th anniversary will serve as an opportunity for Korea University to grow into a world‑class university based on the accumulated strength and will of all KU members. Together with all of you, we will open a greater future for a stronger and reinvigorated Korea University.

Thank you.

President of Korea University, Dong-One Kim

Meet the KU Mascots

HOI

HOI

HOI was born deep inside the valley where Anam Village was located. This spiritual being appears wherever and whenever there is need. HOI always has a cheerful smile as well as a youthful heart that never tolerates injustice.

KUI

KUI

KUI has entered the KU of its dreams, but struggles with difficulties in the real world and sometimes loses its grip. KUI has a curious personality and a pure heart, and always smiles brightly even when being nagged by someone. KUI hates taking off its hoodie.

DARO

DARO

DARO is living in hiding somewhere on Squirrel Trail. In fact, DARO is a god from Mt. Gaeun, but as it is shy, it is at a loss when it meets students. However, when they make eye contact with DARO and make a wish, it eventually grants their wish as it has a good heart.

MUMU

MUMU

MUMU is a pine tree that bears green pine nut cones. MUMU itself has the form of a cone, and possesses a mysterious substance that helps relieve stress, which makes MUMU KUI’s best friend.

GOGO

GOGO

GOGO is the real owner of the campus who roams around its domain. GOGO always has a plump shape, as it enjoys eating well and playing, escorted by several butlers.

ANAM

ANAM

When HOI was born in Anam Village, ANAM became HOI’s first friend. ANAM, a giant granite rock that was born 200 million years ago, has made itself small so that it can hang out with its friends. ANAM often gives its favorite plum blossom to its friends.

PUR, PAR, PER

PUR, PAR, PER

PUR, PAR, PER are three blue baby birds who follow HOI out of respect and admiration. Because their wings have not yet fully developed, they practice flying every day, while looking forward to being able to fly someday.

CHAMI & SARI

CHAMI & SARI

CHAMI & SARI usually hang out around Chamsari Trail, and they have always given great support to KUI. They have the ability to unite KU members, but sometimes they are too straightforward, so they provoke the animosity of their friends.
